3 Simple Tips to Market to Millennials on Social Media

If your company is looking to market to Millennials, chances are social media is going to be your main source of leads.

The Millennial demographic makes up the majority of social media users, and platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat are a goldmine for advertisers.

With that said, when using these platforms to target Millennials, it is important to understand how you should be representing yourself.

Companies that seem too formal will be unfollowed, and they should take care not to be too sales oriented.

To target Millennials on social media you need to create your own vibe. Your accounts will differ between platforms.

For instance, content that works well on Instagram may not be suited for Twitter. Therefore, to better utilize your profiles, you need to ensure each one is suited to the respective platform.

As a Millennial who follows dozens of brands, I recommend the following three tips to better showcase your company:

1. Find your voice.

Just as each of us has a unique voice, your brand needs to have one as well. Your company should create a native voice on each social media platform.

As an example, on Twitter you might share daily motivational quotes, while on Instagram you might showcase your products being used outdoors.

If your company has a recognizable voice on social media, Millennials will feel like your company isn’t as corporate. It establishes a natural medium for interaction, unlike other sales channels.

2. User-generated content.

One of the coolest aspects of social media is the ability to enable user-generated content. This content is created by your customers and reposted on your profile.

From a follower’s perspective, it presents your company in a new light by highlighting actual people who use your product.

People will create content for your company to either be featured on your profile, which may have a lot of followers and in turn get them exposure, or simply because they dig what your company is creating.

One successful example of this is the Pura Vida Bracelets Instagram page, which has over 600,000 followers. On its profile, Pura Vida posts amazing user-generated content of people wearing their bracelets.

3. Playful interaction.

The final key to targeting Millennials on social media is staying up to date on current events. When something goes viral, be sure your company is sharing a cool perspective on the event.

This makes Millennials feel inclined to listen and makes your company seem with it.

When interacting with Millennials on social media, emojis are also recommended. Emojis are an innovative way to show emotion.

My favorite emojis to use are the upside-down smiley face and the thumbs up. Find some emojis that fit with your brand and start using them.

Now it’s time to put these tips into practice. Start honing your social media voice and fostering user-generated content. You’ll soon find your company having awesome interactions through these platforms!
